I am interested in getting folks in the San Francisco Bay Area together to drum. There are quite a few circles going on in the area, but I am largely unaware of their existence. I've heard the idea of queer drum circles a few times, but nothing materialized. Any time a group of folks gets together and lets loose some rhythm, magick is created and healing energy flows. By the nature of this site I'd like to bring together younger folk, but realizing that this is a rare and special thing, am open and eager to drum with spiritually aware and hip folk of any age. Depending on our numbers we can seek out any number of spaces for our drumming. Please e-mail Shaggy if you are interested in making some joyful "noise"!
Also, please let me know if you know of lovely spaces that are appropriate for drum circles in your area (Bay Area or otherwise). For example, I cannot open my home to them because of neighbors. And most of the parks down here in the "flat lands" are in residential districts.
I had originally put out this call for folks in Atlanta, which was where I was living at the time. Perhaps I can still help you connect with folks there if you're in the metro Atlanta area. For instance, the Rainbow Family hosts bi-monthly drum circles at the Lake Claire Land Trust.
I play a pair of dark oil-stained Latin Percussion "World Beat" congas, rhythm egg, castanets, and any percussion instrument I come in contact with when I'm in Circles. I've been drumming for about four years now, and have picked up some enlightening chants, songs, and beats along the way. Always open to share and learn more!
